Also my kind of heritage site: Killaloe cathedral, which has a stone bearing ogham AND runic inscriptions!

Quin Friary has a fabulous covered cloister, tonnes of wicker centring and a resident cat who will pause to say hello on his daily hunt. My kind of heritage site! #Irisharchaeology

Working on my grandfather’s biography and this is one of my favourite quotes from a letter written in 1961. I sense he too had his moments of #impostersyndrome

The #CommunityMonumentsFund has been an absolute game changer for sites in private ownership like the towerhouse at #Moone. Without it monuments like this are at considerable risk. Congrats to the owners who have persevered and all the experts involved in carrying out the work. #HeritageWeek

Really enjoyed the lovely people who participated in my sweltering hot tour of #Castledermot this morning. Thanks to my son for the photo and assisting in getting everyone safely around the roads. ❤️ #HeritageWeek

The rest of my afternoon will be spent unwrapping and exploring this bundle of three-generation-old letters relating to my #familyhistory before starting transcription. The word on the cover is ‘Argentine’ - my Gt-grandfather worked & lived there and grandfather was born there.

WTAF. In my rage I almost missed the small print directing me to the page where I can opt to disable #AI making outputs of MY work. Seriously, the cyber world is driving my blood pressure up today! Daughter dealing with a #BitLocker débâcle too… 😭

Having difficulty interpreting what type of hospital this #WW2 doctor is naming. For context he is in the Indian Medical Service based in Quetta, c.1944. I’m seeing ‘Cantonment’ but does that make sense? #archives

Trig point on Erris Head, #Mayo looking good despite a couple of centuries of storms! High winds today on the looped walk but the views were worth it. @irelandmapped.bsky.social

An overdue re-visit to #CéideFields in dismal weather today. Finally saw the revamped exhibition and it’s simply wonderful! High tech, low tech, a feast for the senses, inspiring and accessible. This is #heritageinterpretation done right.

Quick! Someone remind me why I agreed to go on a 10k walk in a city with thousands of strangers? It’s a love day for a walk around the fields… 😬

I love the month of May. Green with hints of red.

I love a #familyhistory fun fact! 100 yrs ago Lux Toilet Soap was first rolling off the production lines at the Port Sunlight Company (Liverpool) with my great grandfather overseeing production.

#luckycharm I’ve had this guy for 39 years. He’s about to do his third #LeavingCert but also has Inter Cert, BA, BEng and MA exams under his belt and even sat through a PhD viva and has passed a driving test.

Saw the matinee performance of King Lear at @gatetheatre.bsky.social today and it was wonderful! When I was 18 I saw the memorable Timothy West in the role. Today Conleth Hill was at least equally memorable. Also, bravo to the set designer and team for a fab overall look and atmosphere 👏👏👏👏

For an Irish example, I’m pretty sure this housing estate got its name from the discovery of a Belarmine/Bartman pot

We actually had a sunny morning (gone now) and I got out in the garden to attack a few broken branches at last. Good for body and soul!
