My Germany flea market trait is that I will not haggle with someone who is quoting me something completely outrageous. Nah man I’m out. What do you mean you’re asking for €15 for one of these.

(We later found one at another stall for €1).

What a good day in the woods.
A beech tree, taken looking up at the base of the trunk: a big grey pillar stretching towards the sky where it branches out in an explosion of golden leaves Sunlight in the beech woods. Grey trunks, sprays of yellow and brown and still some green leaves, a thick layer of brown below Very Amber in the woods. The canopy: dark branches, yellow and gold and amber leaves.

Found some bleeding fairy helmets in the woods today.
Tiny pink cone-shaped mushrooms sprouting out of an old log. The same pink mushrooms but a deep red latex is bubbling up from cuts made in the surface of the fruiting body.

Trumpet lichens, one of my new favorite things to find in the woods.
A piece of bark with trumpet lichens growing on it. They are pale green and seussian in proportion: long and skinny and then flaring to a cup. Trumpet lichens, teeny tiny, poke up amongst frilly moss.

I think first one (brown) is a scaly tooth fungus! Latter looks a little like sulphur tufts which I also saw today but I don’t really know how to ID more (tooth fungi are quite distinct!)

Mushroom update

Moral recoiling from every form of violence, if it is to be responsible, must avoid the paralysis that results from too intemperate a sense of horror. Our emotional life must be useful to ourselves and others. Granted the real world is vicious and terrifying in many ways. But it is always bearable. A moral sense must submit to formation by the real; to the admission that nothing is too big, too real, too unreal to be lived with. Man is made for the world, even for our world. It is doubtful that he can come to maturity apart from the terrifying realities that surround him. Unless this is admitted, moral activity ends in the madhouse, or in the intramural childishness which is another form of treason. A real question for real men - what light can you shed? Woe to the high-minded, over-fastidious man who merely pours darkness upon darkness.
