Mostly condo law and blue jays discourse.
But isn’t the very nature of free agency predicated on the reality that by acquiring a player, Team A is always paying more than any other team is prepared to pay?

I agree....but I also think that there will inevitably be a prospect who is given a chance and ends up producing. Roden is my call.

I would do it in a second. I wonder if the Tigers would pay more, though.

I remember one off season where the only signing was Kevin Millar on a minor league deal. This is much much more exciting to be in the game at least. If you don’t shoot you will never score.

I keep asking myself whether fans will react differently than last year if this doesn’t work out? I would hope so especially if the team moves quickly on its plan B.
December 4, 2024 at 1:37 AM
ya I think the timing will work out better.

I also don't think any of the real "b" option players will be off the board when Soto signs. The agents are all waiting on Soto.
December 3, 2024 at 6:28 PM
I think we have lost sight of how bad last year's free agent class was. We spent like two month's debating between Turner and JD Martinez.
December 3, 2024 at 6:26 PM
I also think that he could eventually move over to second and be effective there as well.

And you don’t spend 250 million on stadium renos and then trying to save a few million on payroll.
November 28, 2024 at 5:49 PM
I understand that Soto may be its own case, but you are not shopping for Fried or Burnes if you are also looking to lower payroll. And you are also not paying billions for a higher percentage ownership in MLSE. There is a strategic advantage to being vague about payroll, imo.

Hopefully Ben responds to you!
November 28, 2024 at 2:51 PM
I am with you. My point is that whatever the ceiling is, there could still be more wiggle room. But I also think it is not a competitive advantage for teams to know what the Jays are working with in terms of payroll.
November 28, 2024 at 2:48 PM
The other factor not taken into account with all of these projections is that one big trade could open up much more money. You can’t look at an off season as just a series of free agents signings and nothing else.
November 28, 2024 at 1:47 PM
I am confused. Does this trade get announced after they sign Soto?
November 26, 2024 at 10:54 PM
His contact rates are solid and he plays good defence. Not many of the free agent outfielders can actually play strong defence and make consistent contact.
November 26, 2024 at 5:56 PM
Max Kepler?
November 26, 2024 at 5:52 PM
his defence is also not great. But has a good arm at least. Contract could age really poorly.
November 25, 2024 at 3:17 PM
Fair enough. And I am certainly not challenging your sources. But the reality is that if the team tendered a contract and he didn’t pitch in 2025 everyone would blame the FO for wasting 9 mill.
November 23, 2024 at 4:56 PM
But Mike where is this information coming from? Isn’t the team in the best position to know this?
November 23, 2024 at 4:47 PM
But what if they didn’t think they could get anything from him next year? The team obviously is working with medical info that none of us are privy to.
November 23, 2024 at 2:55 PM
So the team was supposed to guarantee 9mill to someone they didn’t think was healthy? I am sure if they tendered him and didn’t pitch all year they would have blamed the FO as well.
November 23, 2024 at 2:42 PM
he just seems to echo Varsho....great on defence with a bit of pop. I would sacrifice a bit of defence in left field it it came with more power. But I wouldn't dislike the move.
November 21, 2024 at 6:34 PM
but does he have enough power??
