I guess my assumption is that, if the overall $ is the same (or very similar) in a 3 vs. 5 year offer, cutting your losses toward the end of the deal shouldn’t be a big pain? So long as you’re willing to cut on-field losses (not give him 600 ABs after it’s clear he is bad). $ would’ve burned anyway.

If he wants more years for the same price, it really is a no-brainer. Of course, it’s not that simple & idk if this is even the issue, but even if the difference is $30 mil AAV vs. $25 mil AAV over 5 years…I just can’t reason this being a gap legitimate enough that you let him walk.
