I am an artist painting my world in bright colours while living with chronic illness and invisible disability. My art is for sale and available art is on my website, shawnamccomber.com
Here is a little still life in wax paint. I am really enjoying it and it works well for my natural painting style. I blocked this one in yesterday and finished it today. Now I am exhausted.

This is my first try at Ceracolors water soluble wax paint. I like the texture I can get and the way the paint handles but I am sure there is much still to learn about it.

More work on this one today and a better photo. From Sea to Shining Sea, oil on cradled wood.

I should take a better photo but hey, I'm impulsive. Working on an expressive abstract series pouring out my feelings about current politics, being Canadian and having feelings, big oil-painty feelings about it all.

Sometimes you just have to change things and put the jug handle on the other side.

A scene from my imagination, inspired by some of my favourite places and favourite things.

On my wall easel, 'Melting Snow', oil on wood. Probably getting close to finished, but I'm too exhausted to paint for a few days.

This is where layer 3 of Striped Jug got to today. It's time to leave it alone now, which is always difficult but fussing ruins the freshness I enjoy that comes from imperfect brushstrokes.

Just playing in my sketchbook with an over-sized brush and some paint I am trying to use up.

The second stage of striped jug, colours are a bit brighter and warmer. It's time to leave it now.

Sketchbook play on a day I had little energy. Sometimes I just play with colour and making marks. Sometimes I cover an old page with something new. There is too much white for my liking in the first photo so I'm sure that will change.

Loose brushwork and muted colours was my intention for this one. Stripes are challenging when you have shaky hands. #stilllife #oilpainting #canadianartist

Sometimes it just makes me happy painting rectangles and circles. Watercolours and Neocolor 2 in Moleskine sketchbook.

I call these funky oysters. Colourful, undulating strokes of paint give the appearance of an opened oyster shell with a pearl inside.

JUST IN: A new H5N9 bird flu variant has been found in U.S. poultry for the first time at a California duck farm.

This variant, linked to the dangerous H5N1 strain, has led to the culling of nearly 119,000 birds to stop the outbreak.

I stopped using acrylic paint for a couple of years but I am back to enjoying it for sketchbooks and mixed media work. I love this large Moleskine sketchbook too.

I recently spent a week in Portland visiting a dear friend. I had time for playing in my sketchbook while she was at work and these are two pages I like. There is a bit of collage along with acrylic paint.
