I made this account for my dog (also sometimes computers happens)
But I’ve said my piece on it. I hope they do change it, and I personally am not going to try and take advantage of opponents with these kinds of triggers, no matter the competitive level.

Not only that but it’s one sided because one player chose that battlefield and knows the trigger will be there to acknowledge. It’s like if in MTG you had a way to cause your opponent to lose 3 life during their first upkeep of the game unless they said a magic phrase. Even if they go first.

Eh, we’ll see? I can envision formalizing these as “start of game“ effects which aren’t controlled by a single player. Or an errata that makes Arena’s greatest lower the Victory Point target by one.

Or maybe the juice won’t be worth the squeeze of the fix? Who can say? (Dave. Dave can say.)

I’m still interested in your personal opinion about what makes a game have “the sauce”, or what I’m interpreting as “staying power”. I can’t speak to the initial reception of FaB since I was just on a TCG hiatus, so I’m also curious about how you think that game fell off.

> Is it just "I'm aware of League/Arcane?"

I’m not entirely sure what you’re asking here. If it’s “is the sauce just the IP?” I don’t think so. It certainly isn’t for me. It’s enough to get people to the table to try a game though, which can’t be discounted.

I personally think it does

As a longtime MTG player that struggled to bring new people into the hobby, I’ve found that teaching Riftbound is easier and friends seem more confident after their first game than with MTG. Arcane is helping here a lot.

What kinds of things make a game “saucy”, for you?

Yes, many online tournaments have been run on TTS w/ casters commentating as well.

There is also tcg-arena.fr which allows play through the browser online.

Very excited to hear this. It was kinda demoralizing to realize that this game’s community, that I wanted to grow with, was using a platform I have difficulty supporting.

Looking forward to more conversations in the future!

I caved and added the peanut butter directly. We’re already behind schedule for boarding drop off (not that he knows that 👀 💦)

That’s an amazing showing!

Any particular package or strategy that worked out for you against Kai’sa?

I think it’s 13?
December 3, 2025 at 11:52 PM
Yeah, the product availability issues are not helping with that either.

Do you like to play competitively, at the local level, or just among friends? At the local level, I’ve been enjoying the fact that decks primarily made of commons and uncommons can stand their ground.

Need to see draft tho 👍

Not any true rules sims, but I’ve had good success with tcg-arena.fr

There are also solutions using TableTop Simulator if you already have that

I don’t see how they could support a different sleeve if the card can go into the trash and/or be recycled into the main deck.

I imagine it’s the same reason why it must share the language of the main deck when the Legend card is allowed to be distinct from the other decks.
November 30, 2025 at 10:20 PM
Oh wow… didn’t know about that rule! And it being specifically for cards being shuffled together makes me think that the different languages have different printing processes that can be felt during play. Interesting…

Sure, but trading up ends up being relatively inefficient because you’re not scoring at the end of the combat.

I didn’t find myself in any situations where I had the gear and two small units so one could trade up and the other could conquer uncontested.

Maybe with more card draw and a low curve

I have had success with it in situations where it helps “upgrade” spells to take out units that otherwise would need two spells, and the op is playing a midrange deck. There, the card advantage it provides allows a slow win. But it’s too niche, and wouldn’t stand up to expensive decks.
