I used to think "the man hasn't been able to digest a decent meal in six weeks" was just a hilarious line in a great movie. 20 years later, I feel nothing but sympathy for the poor guy. Get this man some probiotics!

This pass rush is just sexy. Love to see it.

After a week in what is the drunk methed out toddler of driving dynamics, the ford edge ST, I must be the first person maybe ever to drive away in a Nissan Sentra thinking "finally a car that steers, drives, brakes, and rides properly"

Rental car review part 3: the stop start tech in the ford edge is also painfully dumb and ill-programmed (at least by feel, maybe the numbers bear out their philosophy).

Rental car review part 2, Ford edge ST edition: trans tuning makes it drive weird and not naturally off throttle. square bottom steering wheel is also risible and completely unnecessary and dumb in an SUV (!) with tilt steering (!!). What were you thinking Ford?!

Barbara is in the shop. So time for another rental car review. Ford Edge ST. What a piece of crap. Floaty suspension, transmission that seems determined to stay under 3k rpm, but also nervous because of the "sporty" (over boosted) throttle, brake, and steering tuning. And it sounds like a diesel.

The roof adjustment continues...the arm on the right side keeps popping off though. Not sure what's happening. I think the slider that's broken is somehow torquing it in a way it's not supposed to. We're close though!

After getting a slim 7mm socket and definitely not a normal one that's too fat because I didn't check and needed to make a second trip to AutoZone, I think the coolant breather valve is successfully installed. Probably. Almost certainly. We'll find out today!

I'm loving the JJ Watt Ian Eagle bromance that's developing.

Bad news: Barbara Boxster seems to like to eat up oxygen sensors.

Good news: the shop is gonna warranty it.

Any 986 owners have an idea of what's up?

Seeing JJ Watt standing next to Ian Eagle is hilarious

"hey I've got a line on some old German cars. Are you interested?"

My no-time, no-space, no-wrenching ass: "no...but send me pictures just in case"

All this damn powered by AI stuff and my phone still can't tell when my fat fingers are trying to not highlight and copy a hanging hyphen. Pathetic.

Slowly fixing all of Barbara's clunks. The noise I thought was axles or clutch doing bad things was just a broken arm in the convertible top.

Leak update: found an obvious leak source and repaired. better but not totally gone.

We're slowly getting there.

It occurred to me that if the recent sauber surge is what binotto can do outside of the ferrari clown show, I think I owe that man and his ridiculous haircut an apology.

Ecclestone was right. Put sprinklers on the tracks. Wet F1 is best F1.

Now that all the broken stuff clunks are gone, I feel like I'm finally figuring out the smoothest way to shift Barbara Boxster. It's a great feeling.

Customer asked me last night about my 986. After much thought, I think the best way to sum up my experience with German sports cars is that it's not for the faint of heart, but it should tell you something that I still say it's worth it. Sort of. Do you want to retire at some point?
May 27, 2025 at 6:42 PM
Good news: the noises that I thought were just my poor upgrade choices and a dying clutch were in fact due to dead struts and a dead alternator.

Bad news: the issue with the alarm is still there...

Is my car about to die or am I just fixing old car stuff that you have to do with any car around 120k-150k miles? Basically I'd hate to replace Barbara with a damn used Corolla (the XRS I could live with) and have to do these same jobs all over again.

Factor premade meals Marketing is ignorant of how this single dude cooks. In what universe are singles making 1 portion of food at a time? If you are spending "2x the time for half the food" then you're doing something wrong.
