Applied Complexity Science is my jam. I dig emergence, tipping points, and making turtles move in computational simulations.

I teach this at the undergraduate level, do consulting work on “wicked problems”, and research things like societal resilience.
Using multiple “homeKit homes” is a laughably bad user experience.

What makes things worse is the neglect Apple has had for HomeKit.

The interface has only gotten worse with “ai smarts” substantially rearranging your buttons for you.

There’s no account based support: everyone can control everything, or nothing at all.

It’s a terrible shame that Apple’s HomeKit Secure Vision didn’t take off as a broader standard.

I’ve been looking at IP cameras, and boy do they have AWFUL security.

There’s value in leveraging existing trust in Apple to manage the complexity of remotely viewing IP cameras for you.

I’ve been lurking. I guess this is my first post here. I’m looking forward to the wild wacky internet twitter of old.

I love that Bluesky has been able to deliver that, while also trying to ensure the platform remains healthy and dedicated to robust platform decentralisation as well. I find it refreshing that their CEO is designing a platform that can survive being taken over by hostile corporate forces.

As much as I love the idea of mastodon, I can admit that abstract principles of freedom don’t matter to enough people. People want cheap, easy, and good enough.

The most I can hope for now, is for someone to eventually build the Bluesky version of Reddit so then we can be ready for the next Bluesky exodus moment.

My reddit use is similar to my facebook use. I’m not browsing for fun, I’m using it to ask questions and find out best practices – both of which require the most extensive and mature community networks.

I also recognize I have low leverage in shifting any established communities off these platforms
