I actually like the playoff, because it takes the sting of “losing just one game robs your whole season” away. But there’s no such thing now as “it was an unlucky break, but at least we’re conference champs” now and that really does render those games useless.

Nail on the head here with the indifference. I’m old enough to remember Shane Matthews slinging it all over the field. Through the ups and downs I thought it would always sort of make it back to where it was during the heyday. But it’s different now. It’s hard to see a sustained comeback.
