I know someone mentioned Ghost in the Shell, and I would also recommend Bubblegum Crisis and Armitage III as pretty classic anime for the genre. Definitely be on the look out for body horror in the majority of cyberpunk media, its pretty integral to a lot of it.

This is what I was thinking too. Grew up in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountaind in the 80s/90s and that system could 100% work for that small rural town feel with just the right touch of weirdness.

Totally agree. I've played through 3 so many times now, but 4 just couldn't hold my attention for very long. It just felt empty and uninteresting.

I found an article from 2023 with some numbers, and while it isn't (sadly) as all encompassing as I had thought, it looks like only 2 states have no laws preventing this (the Carolinas), while 8 others only cover facilities (including police lockup). Federal law also addresses it. Should be more.

This is 100% not true. It is actually illegal for a cop/jailer/anyone involved in law enforcement or a detention facility to have sex with someone who is detained. People who do that find themselves getting charged with rape. A detained/incarcerated person cannot legally consent.
