Israeli Genocide Bonds A direct line from our Central Bank to the genocide in Gaza What are "Israel Bonds? "Israel Bonds" are investment bonds issued by Israel to raise money. They are explicitly advertised with the slogans "Israel is at war" and "Stand with Israel". The money raised funds Israel's apartheid system and its genocidal onslaught on Gaza. How is our Central Bank involved? To be sold within the EU, bonds from non-EU countries must be regulated by the Central Bank of a country that is in the EU. Before Brexit, the UK provided the gateway into the EU for Israel's financing campaign. After Brexit, the Central Bank of Ireland (CBI) took over this role. In September 2024, almost a year into the genocide, the CBI renewed its authorisation of Israel Bonds. Complicity in genocide In January 2024, the International Court of Justice (IC]) confirmed the plausibility of the charge of genocide against Israel for its actions in Gaza. As a signatory to the Genocide Convention, Ireland is obliged to ensure that our state institutions are do not facilitate genocide. What should be done? The Governer of the Central Bank, Gabriel Makhlouf, insists that "we have to approve a prospectus... as long as the prospectus meets the standards of completeness, comprehensibility and consistency." In fact, Israel's bond prospectus witholds ethical and risk-related information - it does not mention the genocide charge at the IC], nor does it mention Israel's profiteering from weaponery that is "field-tested" in Gaza - so it is not "comprehensive, complete or consistent". On this basis, Central Bank Governor Gabriel Makhlouf has the power to "to prohibit or suspend advertisements". If he will not invoke the powers at his disposal, the government must act to stop our Central Bank financing genocide. Implicating all of us in genocide "Those who finance genocide under the mantra "it's only business" are complicit in genocide. By selling Israeli war bonds, the Central Bank of Ireland is implicating all of us, all Irish people, in Israel's war crimes. The approval of these war bonds must be stopped." David Landy of Jews for Palestine - Ireland The government need to act The Central Bank can act. But if the Central Bank won't act, then the government need to act. All they have to say is: "As a general principle, Ireland won't sell bonds for countries who are in the dock for breaching the Genocide Convention." Senator Alice Mary Higgins How can you support the campaign? • Write to the Governor of the Central Bank, Gabriel Makhlouf, at gabriel.makhlouf@centralbank.ie and demand that he invokes his power "to prohibit or suspend advertisements" of Israel bonds. • Email the Deputy Governors at vasileios.madouros@centralbank.ie and derville.rowland@centralbank.ie demanding action. • Contact your TDs and remind them that, under the Genocide Convention, they are obliged to ensure that state institutions do not facilitate genocide. • Call upon local councillors to raise the issue in county and city councils. • Put a motion to your trade union/student union/community association calling on the Central Bank to stop facilitating genocide in Gaza. • Ask your Credit Union to call on the Governer to stop this appalling practice. • Follow @irelandpsc and join our regular protests at the Central Bank. Back in the day, I was lucky enough to go to a Boyzone meet and greet during their 08 reunion. Mikey was the funniest and chatted the most. Stephen was a gent. Keith was good craic. Shane was nice too, Ronan was rushing through and didn’t stop with us. I was absolutely overjoyed to be there.

They’re claiming they never arrested him and have no knowledge of his whereabouts. He has been disappeared.

Following the incident, an IDF spokesperson confirmed his arrest and stated that he had been transferred for interrogation. However, since then, no further information has been provided about his whereabouts.” Continued tweet: “But on Thursday January 1st, the Israeli military informed Physicians for Human Rights that they have no record of Dr. Abu Safiyyah’s detention. This response came after PHRI, acting on behalf of Dr. Abu Safiyyah’s family requested information to facilitate a lawyer’s visit on January 2. In its response to PHRI’s inquiry, the military stated: "Following your inquiry, we would like to inform you that a review has found no indication of the arrest or detention of the individual in question." In light of this denial, PHRI has now filed a petition with the Israeli High Court of Justice (HCJ) on Thursday, demanding immediate disclosure of Dr. Abu Safiyyah’s location. Since October 2023, Israel has detained hundreds of Palestinian healthcare workers from Gaza without charge or trial. Health workers have been subjected to torture and other ill-treatment and been held in incommunicado detention.”
