I've double checked, and I'm pretty sure I've inserted all the code from the tutorial correctly. Which means I'm at a loss for what the error is. Line 215 of federation.ts is the part of the code I'm touching, but why `const follow = await accept.getObject();` is throwing an error I cannot say.

All right, possibly relatedly I have hit my first head scratcher. Tutorial says this sql query should give me a result:

"SELECT * FROM follows WHERE follower_id = 1"

But a look at the follows table suggests the following_id and follower_ids are reversed from […]

yay I've reached the activitypub part!
Implementing the actor As the name suggests, ActivityPub is a protocol for exchanging activities. Writing a post, editing a post, deleting a post, liking a post, commenting, editing a profile… All actions that happen in social media are expressed as activities. And all activities are transmitted from actor to actor. For example, when John Doe writes a post, a "writing" (Create(Note)) activity is sent from Joh Doe to John Doe's followers. If Jane Doe likes that post, a "liking" (Like) activity is sent from Jane Doe to John Doe. Therefore, the first step in implementing ActivityPub is to implement the actor. The demo app generated by the fedify init command already has a very simple actor implemented, but to communicate with actual software like Mastodon or Misskey, we need to implement the actor more properly. First, let's take a look at the current implementation. Open the src/federation.ts file:

When you quantify a debt with financial precision – and especially when you invest paying it off with profound moral gravity, making it a fundamental moral imperative – you take what was a human relationship of mutual imbrication and co-implication into a financial one based on a kind of moral dominance, and thereby subject the indebted party to the mechanisms of financial debt collection instead of the precepts of human morality. If my relationship to my parents was a financial one, then I could pay it off and be done with them (or they could forgive the debt and be done with me). Or (and here is where it gets interesting), they could present me with a bill, demand that I pay it, and throw me in jail if I failed to do so.

(Theranos was never public but, uh, the stock went to zero.) Ordinarily this is a story about the incentives facing plaintiffs’ lawyers: If a company has a rampant culture of sexual harassment, it is much more pleasant for plaintiffs’ lawyers to bring a securities-fraud class action (“when the sexual-harassment news came out the stock went down”) than it is for them to bring a sexual-harassment class action (“each of these 1,000 employees were victims of a pattern of sexual harassment at your company”), because the facts are neater and the plaintiffs more uniform and the damages much easier to prove and probably larger."
