Last night was one for the books! I was in beautiful Poulsbo, WA, to speak at the 23rd LD Dems Salmon Dinner. I spoke about our Party’s fight to defend our country against fascism. It was also an evening of community, fun, and joy!

I’m honored to serve as Vice Chair of the Democratic National Committee and am deeply grateful to the members who placed their trust in me. This was the longest election in DNC history, and every vote cast reflected our shared belief in building a stronger, more inclusive Democratic Party. As a millennial, I’m committed to creating more opportunities for young people to get involved and become the leaders of today—not just tomorrow. And as an AAPI leader, I’m proud to represent America’s fastest-growing voting bloc and ensure we have a seat at every table where decisions are made. I’m ready to work side by side with Chair Martin and Democrats across the country to win elections and live up to the values we all share.

My heart goes out to Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband’s family and all who loved them. Also praying for the recovering of Senator John Hoffman and his wife. Political acts of violence must be condemned and freedom of speech and assembly must be protected.
A man disguised in a police uniform assassinated a leader who served her constituents with grace, kindness, and a passion for public service. Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman is gone, taken by an assailant who pretended to be there to protect and serve their community. Her husband, also gone by gun violence. State Senator John Hoffman, wounded. His spouse, in hospital care from a gunshot wound. There is no way to make sense of this. I am horrified by this violence and my heart is with the families, Minnesota, and our whole Democratic Party family. These cowardly acts of violence are an attack on the right to speak freely about what we believe is right. We must preserve freedom of speech in this country, or all will be lost. Elected leaders—Republicans, Democrats, and Independents—should never be targets of political violence. Across the nation, people are standing up for their rights to protest an unjust government and we must protect that no matter what. And we must condemn acts of political violence as strongly and loudly as we can. I ask that you watch out for each other. The stakes are high. This moment demands that you arrive on the streets for what you believe in, but more importantly, to be there for friends, family, and strangers who might be scared and overwhelmed in this moment. I will be in the streets with you. Like you, I will carry a heavy heart. Like you, I will look to others to give me hope that we will overcome.

I have been overwhelmed with the profound outpouring of support for our campaign for DNC Vice Chair. Obviously, the results were not what we were hoping for, but I wish the best to the new leadership team.
