I think almost all scientific projects should be planned carefully. And I think an app can dramatically improve that. So I wrote an app for that (free for now, if you can fund this let me know). I tested it quite a bit (>8000 users in beta so far). try it: planyourscience.com

Yes. Important for all NIH people and scientists:

The executive orders are not law. The President *cannot* make laws.

And in fact, executive orders may violate the law. As a federal employee, you are obligated not to follow illegal orders. That includes illegal EOs.
i am going to put a finer point on this: executive orders are not laws. and they certainly are not royal decrees. they are interpretations of existing law for the purposes of enforcement. the fact that so many people are treating them as laws is actually driving me a bit insane.
i mean, the president's executive order isn't a goddamn law! as far as this doctor is concerned, who cares what the president says!

This is not just a "pause." It is an unlawful destruction now.

Foreign aid is a cornerstone of national security with diplomacy and defense. USAID's work reaches 100s of millions worldwide and America will be harmed.

Here are some of the lives at stake.
I ran @USAID health programs for the last 3 years. Trump’s 90 day Stop Work Order on foreign assistance does serious damage to the world and the US. Examples:🧵

I'm searching for possibilities of funding to cover a sabbatical year as visiting professor abroad in 2026. I'm very interested to collaborate with international researchers within the field of sleep and memory. Please let me know if something interesting comes up.

I want to highlight a special issue in honor of Sarah DuBrow, a brilliant scientist and dear friend who passed away in 2022.

We contributed a paper in which we disentangled the importance of temporal and causal relationships while participants recalled the non-linear narrative, Memento. 🧵 ⬇️ 1/9
I want to draw attention to a special issue that Lila Davachi and I put together to memorialize our friend and colleague Sarah DuBrow. It’s full of papers inspired by her work and her being from a group of collaborators, friends, and fans! Thanks @bradpostle.bsky.social for helping make this happen.

It’s an incredible feeling to see something you’ve poured your heart into come to life. This work was born from my curiosity about hippocampal “cognitive tuning.”
Our interpretation of the environment depends on our actions, constantly evolving as we pursue our goals

Hippocampal neuronal activity is aligned with action plans - Nature
Using high-density electrophysiological recordings, how internally generated cell assemblies are updated by action plans to meet external goals is explored.

Our new paper is out!: While hippocampal inhibitory neurons fluctuate around the 24 hour clock, excitatory neuron overall activity remains stable all day long.

Congrats to Nicolette Ognjanovski and team!

Daily rhythms drive dynamism in sleep, oscillations and interneuron firing, while excitatory firing remains stable across 24 h
Electrical patterns in the mouse hippocampus are dynamic across the 24-h (12:12 light:dark) day. Inhibitory neurons show rhythmicity in firing across the day, peaking around light transitions; meanwh...

Rare case where a model 1) accounts for counterintuitive data "out of the box" (untuned visual input can differentially affect in- vs out-field HD neurons), and 2) provides its own counterintuitive insight (vis input to the HD system must be *reduced* by vis objects).
