Very true, I never understood how being exclusionary to other cultures is supposed to make you love your own. I always found I appreciate and have a more nuanced relationship with my own when I get to enjoy others’ cultures as well.

It’s never explicitly said, but implied, in the forward for my copy (in a big volume) that avatar is directly based off of TWFWIF. If I remember correctly James Cameron asked LeGuin for permission or something.
