There are many other important things happening but Public Health is Dead took home Gold at the W3 Awards in Science & Tech for our work on Something’s in the Air: The Airborne Transmission Error with @ukhadds.bsky.social and Katie Randall. Feel free to let a public health leader near you know.

COMING SOON. “How to stop an epidemic: When SARS came to the ER.” We had the cheat codes for stopping COVID in a 1200 page report. But we ignored it 🫠. Hear from the ER physician who helped prevent a 2003 SARS outbreak in Vancouver and what public health should’ve learned (+ can still learn)!

If you'd prefer to read about how public health fumbled airborne disease transmission and what we can do to get out of this mess, an awesome volunteer created a written version of Episode 3: "Something's in the Air"! 💚 #PublicHealthWeek

Ok so when exactly are we allowed to start raising Vancouver voter issues bc damn… the CO2 at the celebration event was 4145ppm (below 1000 is the guideline) after we dropped in and most people had cleared out. This is the venue in Ep 2 with poor ventilation & it wasn’t even as bad as this before.

Today I saw a rainbow *and* a blood moon eclipse! But when I told a guy on the street to look up at the eclipse he shrugged and he said “it is what it is” so I guess that’s where we are generally but here you go 🩷

If you’ve listened to Public Health is Dead lately, this Optimus Prime-looking machine might be familiar. Aerosol scientist, @ukhadds.bsky.social is working on unlocking aerosol knowledge with the CELEBS technique, using these machines that look like Transformers 🤖 Learn how in the new episode!

Different diseases spread differently. Interrupting the ways they spread is a major part of public health’s job. With our growing understanding of pathogens, we thought we knew it all. But pride comes before a fall. This episode is the story of how we flew too close to the sun 2/

✨NEW EPISODE 🎧 Even 5 years into the ongoing COVID pandemic, public health leaders have stuck to the idea that sprayed droplets are the main way COVID (+influenza etc) spread. But a lot of disease transmission happens through the air we share and many people still don’t know 1/

New Public Health is Dead episode is LIVE - Something’s in the Air! How public health institutions fumbled airborne transmission + what we can do to get out of the mess (ft. historian Dr Katie Randall and aerosol scientist, Dr Al Haddrell) This episode had a lot of help, thank you team 🤩

People (not me) contacted them and they changed it. At least it mentions something that would actually help instead of something that will not. I’d have said “respirators” and there’s something weird going on with “break out”vs “breakout” but here we are.

"Wash your hands" does *nothing* for an airborne pathogen this piece even identifies as such. Media misinformation and public health incompetence is literally killing us. Rampant COVID is a contributing element to TB reactivation and susceptibility. Come onnn

Hand-me-down microwave died, need to get a new one and this pickup email says keep 2m from the next person for your safety. These relics of failed attempts to minimize COVID transmission are so fascinating. Same as faded old stickers about where to stand and directional arrows in grocery stores

The Orpheum is all an elaborate set. It's got a false dome ceiling that is porous on purpose to let warm air escape to be pumped out while the system pushes cool air in from below
