Tomorrow is my birthday--time for my annual book giveaway in gratitude. This year: Andrea Gibson's collection, or Reyna Grande and Sonia Guiñansaca's anthology. Please DM with your info if you'd like a copy and specify which book (U.S. and Canada only). 🙏🏾💜 #WritingCommunity

Ready for the remainder of my Paper #1 "exit interviews" with composition students today. Talking with them first and understanding what they tried to do helps me respond more effectively to them as writers when I leave written feedback. This is how we do "accent on the individual" at Ashland. 💜💛

It's a day I hardly dared hope for. This is the first full long book I read to kid when he was a baby. Now older and a reader in his own right, he's requesting to read it together. And then writes his own notes and observations afterwards. 🥹 Here's my tattered childhood copy that we're using. 💜😍

So very excited for this virtual panel tonight titled "Get Real: Being Vulnerable in Fact and Fiction" with Kiese Laymon and Deesha Philyaw, part of Literary Cleveland's Inkubator Conference! #CleInk25

Today's a day for deep work, beginning with a virtual write-in with Ashland colleagues (we do these once a week for our AU Research & Writing Community). Typing was a little...interesting 😂 It felt so good to advance this essay and write with my colleagues! #AmWriting #LitProfLife

First virtual panel of Lit Cleveland's Inkubator Conference on writing nonfiction. Incredible writers Dr. Eve L. Ewing and Dr. Imani Perry in this conversation, generously moderated by Dr. Joy R. Bostic. #CleInk25

It's that weekend of the year! Went and saw Cat Video Fest 2025 at my local independent theater (tickets support a local rescue). Kid couldn't come with me this year, but I had very good company 💜 and once again this year, wore my Borg cat t-shirt. #CatVideoFest #Cats

Heat advisory today, but not a bad view while working indoors. Practicing deliberate slowness this morning.

I took this at the Pittsburgh show I went to in May. Had no idea. The mighty Matt Cameron.

Sometimes this is what you need. So grateful for the woods behind my deck and the peace an Ohio summer evening can bring, in the midst of so much unrest in the world.

Sharing this morning's heaven. Please take some if you need it--I've got lots. 💜

Father's Day weekend. I'm so fortunate I had a gentle, caring, encouraging, brilliant, funny, affectionate dad whose love will follow me everywhere I go. I didn't always have his approval 😂 but I sure had his love. May the weekend be gentle for others missing their dads or for whom it's tough. 💜

Jazz club last night. One of the rare occasions summer me isn't in a tshirt and running pants (which I otherwise live in). Live music feeds my soul. 💜

When you're trying to write but your heart keeps melting. She!! 🩶🤍 (Lots of rereading, making notes within the original draft, and mapping today to piece the parts of this braided essay together.) 💜💜

Today's writing spot. Grateful. Real. Powered by cherry tomatoes. Best line I've written today in the creative NF essay I'm working on: "I was tired of pretending this was a prize." #AmWriting

Re: kids' books, I recommend Jason Shiga's MEANWHILE (which I discovered at the coparents' house where we did a joint Mother's Day celebration this year--that's kid showing me in the second pic). The level of labyrinthine adventure is just unreal, beyond anything I've ever encountered. #JasonShiga
