‼️ New important shark paper 🦈
We demonstrate that all critical life stages (resting, feeding, being cleaned, mating & giving birth) can occur in the small Fakarava channel & we define it as a “super habitat”

Just back from the field for the start of our new project NETFISH using @lotektelemetry.bsky.social high-resolution telemetry to track small coastal fishes of the Mediterranean including damselfish. We deployed an array of receivers and next week we will be back for tagging ~100 fishes. More soon...

New paper in @asab.org !

With both social & diffusion models, we assess the role of social transmission in the acquisition of depredation by social units of killer whales, as well as the extent to which social units engaged in this behaviour once acquired.

New paper led by Alexandra McInturf & @physiologyfish.bsky.social
We present a methodological framework for analysing catch data to infer aggregation behaviour. We outline key metrics to explore and apply this framework in a case study of juvenile sharks. 🦈

One of my main research question is to understand how sociality emerges in sharks using social network analysis. 🦈
Shark societies are not as complex as wolf packs but their primitive social structure represents a nice model to study the evolution of sociality.

New #OA paper out in Journal of Fish Biology 🦈

Our research uncovers novel behavioral responses in reef sharks to dynamic energyscapes, creating spatiotemporal variations in predation pressure.

Paper: onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/...
May 30, 2024 at 1:22 PM
We used a long-term (18 years) monitoring dataset to assess variation in the way killer whale social units depredate fish catches on fishing gear in a commercial fishery. Our results indicate large heterogeneity in both the spatial and temporal extents of depredation across social units.
