Its a good way to start the week. Here on St John USVI tagging and tracking. First fishing and caught 2 juvenile lemons. 133cm TL and 90.5cm TL showing that coral bay provides resources for multiple cohorts when lumped in with the YOY sharks we tagged in may. #shark #ocean #marinelife #carribean 🦈

For the Past week we have been lucky enough to study a Nurse Shark Breeding Aggregation in the British Virgin Islands.

This is one breeding event I was lucky enough to document via Drone.

It was NUTS.

Shark number 40. This baby lemon on Anegada getting it's transmitter.

In the past few weeks the team and I have tagged 40 sharks of 4 different species.

Two territories. 4 islands. So many questions.

I BRUV YOU!

This determined nurse shark at our BRUV on St thomas USVI yesterday was a very big fan of the mackerel in the tube.

Word of the day is "Bycatch" refering to the unintentional capture of non-target species.
During our juvy #shark long line survey we captured this beauty of an African Pompano. The conservationist in me cringes at bycatch but the fish Biologist get excited!

It's bby #shark season and with a new project = new questions
Like does the increase in #sargassum effect baby sharks?
Btwn 06-12 we studied a nursery area for juvenile blktip & lemon sharks in Coral Bay St John
Today I redeployed an acoustic reciever in the core area for YOY blktips
It was gross.

Label your shit!

Got a call from a beach goer today! Found a lost reciever from my #whiteshark work that just leaves (to many to admit) left to recover.

He was kind enough to drop it off at my office while I'm in the islands for sharking!

Tagged in December. A 12 ft female tiger #shark stayed in a small territory until about 3.5 weeks ago it started heading north! It is sitting in about 21c water right now!

I am starting my journey home after visiting the #USVI and the #BVI getting ready for #shark season 25'

Last year, we tagged in the BVI 120 individual sharks (7 spp). Including this 12-foot female tiger shark that surfaced just a few miles east of where I was sleeping this morning! 🧪🦑🌊🌍🤿🦈🦠
