ANNOUNCEMENT!: I've been waiting over 3 years to be able to tell you that #MermaidsInTheMoonlight, the little book I drew and wrote and published in the first year of the pandemic is now back in print. This piece of my💙 has had a tumultuous journey, as have I. I'm grateful she's back.

I had the privilege (and pleasure) of reading and blurbing Jayasree Kalathil's English translation of Jissa Jose's Malayalam novel "Mudritha" last year. Out now from HarperCollins India.

What. A. Moment! This gifted reader had hand-embroidered my illustration of Ila the mermaid within the island of Ilankai, which is on the cover of my graphic novel "Incantations Over Water". I gasped! What an incredible encounter at the Galle Literary Festival, and so very moving. 🥹💖

It's good to be in Galle (and back on the island ❤️)! I'm excited about participating in the 2025 Galle Literary Festival, where I will be on three panels about diversity, lyricism and working across genres and mediums.

The Indian Ocean tsunami of exactly 20 years ago plays a significant role in my graphic novel #IncantationsOverWater. It lingers profoundly in the consciousness of my mermaid narrator, Ila. Shared to honour the deceased & those who lost them, those who survived & - as ever - in reverence of Nature.

Who else saw a merlion and a mermaid tail right away in today's Google Doodle (and didn't register the chess aspect at all, until clicking to learn more)?

To live well, one must remember one is mortal. But how we care - how we love and how we choose to live - can outlive us. This is why I have become a legacy donor at The Community Library Project, a movement of free libraries for children.

It's International Children's Book Day, and I wanted to say a word about *international* literature - about diversity and the importance of reading across cultures, so as to open one's mind... and hopefully, one's❤️!

Here I am with my picturebooks "The Ammuchi Puchi" & "Mermaids In The Moonlight".❤️

It's International Mermaid Day! My "Mermaids In The Moonlight" & "Incantations Over Water" contain myriad tales about merbeings from all over the world, and from my own imagination. These books are anchored in my ancestral scapes, and ripple as far as the waters take them...

I am honoured to be a recipient of a 2024 Devi Award, which celebrates women in India for dynamism and innovation across different fields. While individual works of mine have received recognitions in the past, this is the first time I've received an accolade for my body of work and its impact. 🙏

Grateful to see "Incantations Over Water" and "Mermaids In The Moonlight" at the Lakmahal Community Library, Colombo - thanks to a photo that @thegutterflower.bsky.social kindly sent me. It is among the libraries in Batticaloa, Colombo and Jaffna that I had these books of mine sent to last year.

I'm touched that Marrow Magazine has nominated my short story, "Echo, Shadow, Ether, Mirrorlight" for a Pushcart Prize.

The story is on their website, but I caution you that it deals w sexual violence. You don't need to read it in order to wish me well, and I want you to know that I respect this.💖

*Required reading* for all writers and readers. There is so much insight shared in these essays into the lived experiences of contemporary writers today. My favourite, one I'm sure to revisit, was Amitava Kumar's piece on authenticity.
