The concept of genetic drift didn’t quite click at first… so I built a simulation to help myself understand it better.
If you’ve ever wondered how random chance can shape the genetic makeup of populations, this might help it click for you too. shaneridoux.github.io/posts/2025/0...
What is Genetic Drift?

As I wrap up my day, I am reminded of the “joys” 🙄 of quality control (QC)

Hardy-Weinberg Equilibrium (HWE) assumes random mating and no confounding structure

👀 End-of-day Takeaway: Do HWE filtering in CONTROLS, stratified by known subpops (i.e. sex/ancestry)

Don’t let QC throw out real biology!

Reflecting on today… there has to be a better protocol for quality control in genetic association studies. Particularly when uncovering interactions is the goal. Anyone know of any good references to check out?

As a scientist (in-training), I can't help but be excited and intimidated by the task of open and public scientific communication. While it is something I consider my duty, it is something I have never been quite good at.

Consider this a start? Any opinions from folks?
