You’re again making semantic arguments but I like research.

1996-2005: Top 10 IP leaders averaged ~233 IP

2014-2024 (-2020 shortened season): Top 10 IP leaders averaged ~202 IP

A drop off of 30 IP on average. This era’s pitchers don’t stay on the field, and don’t pitch deep comparatively.

This is a semantic debate over the OP’s hyperbolic word choice. The point stands that the rate of injury is hitting heights never before seen. Seeing guys throw 300 innings or going deep (7+ IP) into games is area modern baseball severely lacks.

It’s 100% “new”. The trend of chasing velo and stuff has had an incredible impact on healthy pitchers. A quick chart from 2005-2024 is an easy view:

Not to nitpick, but he gave up a run in the first inning. Unearned as it may have been it was his error that caused it.
