Long post, I know, but I haven’t seen this man in almost 35 years and he still impacts my life. If you can get out and mentor youth, whether it’s in sports, music, or in any other way, do it…the impact you make may last a lifetime

Congrats to your kid!

He was and still is that remarkable. Despite retiring 10 years ago, he still comes back to the school & volunteers with kids. Despite not being able to run the gym like he used to, he still finds ways to connect and build kids up. He now spends his time volunteering with kids with special needs.

You could have been the most athletic kid in the world or the least and it didn’t matter. He connected with you. You could have been brimming with confidence or have had none, but he built you up. His class was always fun and at least 3 times a week, you felt unstoppable.

He wore camo cargo shorts, a pair of Chuck Taylors & his gym was filled with music that we were into and posters of athletes, and skateboarders. It didn’t matter who you were, or what life was like at home, for 40 minutes 3 times a week, you felt like you truly mattered.

It is difficult to put into words what he meant to decades of kids in my town. He was a Vietnam era vet & spent his entire career after returning (from what must have been hell) in a small town in upstateNY making a difference every day in children’s lives. Generations of kids are indebted to him.

Of all the teachers/professors I’ve had (including through college, business school & law school), my elementary school gym teacher is easily the best teacher that I ever had. His name is M’er & he was my gym teacher from K-8.

I coach my son’s youth sports teams & there is nothing better than seeing a kid’s confidence grow when they overcome obstacles, whether real or perceived.You can see them stand a little taller & realize that if they push themselves out of their comfort zone a little then they can accomplish anything
