"Corypheus. With a name like that, he'll go 'mwa-ha-ha' at some point. I just know it."

“Cassandra kissed WHO?”

Chin hands.

“It is no dream, my darling. Your eyes do not deceive you. I am here, and I am very real.”
“How can I? I…am still not sure this is not a dream. Perhaps the cruel visions of a demon from the breach…but…such a dream…”
"Who said I didn't? Maybe this 'wise, all-seeing rogue of renown' just wants you to admit it to yourself. You at least deserve that - some self-reaffirmation."

“Awwwww…I’m here now, my Lady Cassandra. We can make up for lost time. I’m sorry it won’t bring back Divine Justinia, but I hope to make it up to you somehow.”
“You kept him from us…from me…He is a good man just as your story. Perhaps, better. Surely, he could have done something to save…” She had reached the dwarf by this time, just short of gripping him, her eyes that could only be seen by him even closer to tears
“Now, now. Let’s not be hasty, Seeker. We don’t know for sure that if I told you where Hawke was that things would have turned out any differently.”
February 11, 2026 at 6:16 AM
“Of course, my lady. I look forward to joining you then, and thank you.”

As she left, he looked out the window to catch the time of day, then nervously poured the rest of the mead to finish for some liquid courage. Luckily he was already in the right place for his next engagement.
"I appreciate your help, Shane. We have been heavily preparing. Only waiting for the winter storms to pass the summit. We should head toward the fortress in a fortnight or so. I would like to speak with you more, but this has given me a lot to consider. Make yourself at home."

With that Fen nodded+
“Agreed. Now knowing this information, including the wardens could be quite a gamble. Since my family and I are responsible for Corypheus’ escape, I am willing to assist the Inquisition with this task — whenever you are ready to pursue it.”

"Yes, it very well could. But it does answer some questions. Now we have a theory why the Grey Wardens are involved in the first place. I had hoped for their help, but it sounds like they would be a risky liability. Hopefully we can prevent the ritual. Then find other new allies, if we are lucky."
“Precisely. This could be even worse than we imagined. We will need to plan accordingly.”

“Precisely. This could be even worse than we imagined. We will need to plan accordingly.”
"That is... quite a theory."

She perched her chin in her hand. Contemplating. Her eyes growing wide.

"Perhaps he has learned to use the blight. Being able to possess other blighted creatures would explain how he survived. That doesn't bode well for us, or the wardens at Adament.."

Gulps her mead.
“That, I do not know, only that Larius initially approached my father to assist the wardens in exchange for safe passage.”

Shane thought for a moment. “It’s a theory, but I wonder if Corypheus escaped by jumping to Larius’ body? He was not himself, his mind was nearly corrupted when I met him.”

"That makes sense. I can see why he would want to involve himself if it meant freedom for all of you. It still makes me curious how the wardens knew of him in the first place. And how he survived after you defeated him. Do you think... maybe some of the wardens helped him?"
Another sip of mead.

“My father Malcom secretly worked with the wardens to protect our family. They asked him to use his blood magic to reinforce Corypheus’ prison seal. In exchange for helping the wardens, our family was granted our freedom so we could settle in the Free Marches.”

The gears in her head were visibly turning at this point.

"It sounds like they were both a bit foolish. How did your father end up in this situation? Was he also working with them?"

Drank more mead.

"Varric did say when you defeated him, he was dead. Very dead. So how is he still here?"
“I met some wardens in the hidden fortress, Larius and Janeka. He wanted to destroy Corypheus, she wanted to control him. I chose to destroy him, but needed to free him in order to defeat him, or so I was led to believe. After breaking the warden seals, he escaped after I supposedly defeated him.”

"I'm sure we will."

She nursed her drink and paid acute attention as he recalled.

"Coerced? By whom? How did anyone know he was there to begin with?-

Apologies. One question at a time. I am just so curious. He claims to be one of the origional Vints that breached the golden city. Is that true?"
“Ah, thank you for the refill. We’re going to need it after these deep discussions.”

Took another sip.

“Corypheus. He was locked away in a Warden stronghold in the Vimmark Mountains. The protective seal was created by my father’s blood magic. I was coerced into using my bloodline to free him.”

Fen waved over one of the bar maids. Asking for a pitcher when she noticed her goblet was also dry. Slipping her some extra sovereigns.

"That is all we can do, really. Perhaps we should get down to business, before this pitcher dissapears. What can you tell me about your encounter with Corypheus?"
“And I would be honored to meet with them as well. Any help or encouragement I can provide would be my pleasure. At least we are all making the best with what we have.”

He went to take another sip and noticed his mead was already empty. He forgot he drinks when he’s distracted by something else.

"That will come with time. We have quite a few colorful characters here. All trying to help save the world, in their own way. I am sure many will be honored to converse with the Champion of Kirkwall. Too bad it can't be under better circumstances."

Swilled her drink behind a curious look.
“You are kind, my thanks. I would be delighted to meet him later. I’ve been making the rounds to meet everyone, seems I’ve missed a few. I’ve…had some nice conversions with a few individuals and become caught up in learning more about them.”

He tried to hide his smirk with another sip of mead.”

A smirk curled on her lips again.

"Of course. Mead warms the belly. As far as I am concerned, my home is your home."

She sipped her drink, trying to hide the slight blush on her cheeks.

"Indeed he is. Instrumental in our affairs here. I have grown quite close to him. I could introduce you."
“So I’ve heard. Cassandra spoke a little about this Solas finding the fortress. I’ve yet to meet him, though. His name has come up a bit during my short time here. I assume he’s quite an asset to the team.”

Took a sip of the sweet honey mead. “This is wonderful, thank you for this, by the way.”

"Coming right up, falon."

She fetched their drinks and settled in by the fire with him. Sipping mead.

"I hope you had little trouble finding your way here. It is rather out of the way. We were quite fortunate Solas knew of it. Skyhold is formidable, and large enough to keep everyone comfortable."
“Yes, Lady Josephine is lovely and very accommodating. I appreciate your hospitality.”

Hawke followed her into the tavern and was immediately drawn to the cozy fireplace.

“Ah, reminds me of Ferelden. I’d love a honey mead, Lady Inquisitor.”

"Of course. I would be happy to show you around if you like. I trust our ambassador at least showed you living accommodations. We have plenty space for visitors. The tavern is this way."

She gestured toward the courtyard and led him to the rest.

"Wine, ale, mead, brandy? What is your preference?"
“Absolutely, I would be delighted. Please, lead the way. Forgive me, I am still learning my way around the fortress and the grounds.”

Smiles and nods in return. Giving him a curious look.

"Yes, I read 'Tales of the Champion'. I would enjoy learning more about your friends. Though perhaps we should discuss a bit of business first. I know you encountered Corypheus. Perhaps we can discuss it at the Herald's Rest? Drinks are on me."
Smiles with a courteous nod as he shakes her hand.

“The pleasure is mine. Of course, you may call me Shane — no need for formalities on my account. I am pretty easygoing, as any of my friends will tell you. Varric is certainly not lacking for words. I’d be happy to answer any questions for you.”

"Good afternoon, Commander Cullen." Extended his hand to greet him.

"We've got to stop meeting like this under these unfortunate circumstances. As I recall, last we saw each other was back in Kirkwall discussing Knight-Commander Meredith."

“Good morning, my lady. I’m new to Skyhold, acquainting myself with the Inquisition’s leadership. Allow me to introduce myself — Shane Hawke. I imagine my name has crossed your desk, given the situation in Kirkwall.”

“Lady Cassandra, I’m either very brave or very foolish to be seeking you out directly, since that appears to be your official title. Shane Hawke — I heard you’ve been looking for me for quite some time. Well, here I am.”

“Varric…? Explain yourself….”
*cleared his throat*

“I think this is my cue to leave about now…”
“Bad? No. Cassandra is a smart and brave woman. Yet you understand the effort she took to track you down. When she leaned Varric was lying the entire time, she will lose her temper.”
