We are truly hobbled to celebrate 90 weeks as a bestseller! NEVER WHISTLE AT NIGHT is still landing in the hands of crazed fans who just want us Horror Natives to get back to the typewriter and put out a sequel. It’s coming next fall…

Thanks everyone 🖤

87 WEEKS. Still on the Indie Bestsellers List. With so many incredible books out there, we’re floored and grateful to still be here.

To the contributors, booksellers, readers, and every person who passed it along: this is yours as much as ours. Thank you for keeping Never Whistle at Night alive.

If you’re late to the game like me, check out this 15min short film written & directed by @tai-leclaire.bsky.social that features @kaniehtiio.bsky.social too! It’s on HBO Max as the 6th episode of “Reframed: Next Gen Narratives.” A really cool Indigenous take on Mark Twain’s classic story.

Just saw that THE MONKEY is on Disney+. Any spoiler-free opinions on it? From the trailer, it feels like Child’s Play + Final Destination.

NWAN LIVES! We are back on the National Indie Bestsellers List for Part LXXXVI, aka its 86th week. It couldn’t achieve this without its writers, the booksellers, influencers, and readers out there. Thanks!

Here’s my homage to 1986’s Friday the 13th, Part VI: Jason Lives.

“You’ve officially been scouted” hits a bit different as a Native when being invited to join an app called TRIBAL that is essentially a networking app for content creators and has nothing to do with tribal nations. Confused…

Turned 35 today. Had a perfect dinner date with my wife.

5 years into my literary career, and I feel like I’m just warming up. Now I’m stepping into a new opportunity to keep paying it forward, amplifying even more Native voices, and making sure that rising tide lifts every boat.

I’m not sure if she was born in Mexico, but Chicago-based comic book artist Maria Wolf is Purépecha. Her stuff is killer.

There’s no central directory for #Indigenous creatives in #horror film/TV, so I’m building one.

I’ll host it on IndigenousHorror.com.
If you’d like to be included, email your name, role(s), nation/affiliation, and any public links (IMDb, reel, website, socials) to horror@shanehawk.com

Today I was among fellow Penguin Random House authors in a panel titled Battle of the Genre wherein we discussed our respective genres. I think I made a respectable case for #Indigenous #Horror.

Bonus: This week Ted and I signed 180 copies of NWAN and I signed 15 copies of ANOKA, and both sold out!

Cool to see the anthology on this big-ass PRH banner and all of us in-house author names on their wall.
.
Don’t miss our signing tomorrow at 11:30-12:15 at the Penguin Random House booth (#1515)!

We’re back! NEVER WHISTLE AT NIGHT took a brief hiatus from the Indie Bestsellers List, but it’s now back for its 85th week. Here’s my homage to 1985’s Fright Night to celebrate.

King or his social media manager or a hacker has now doubled down on the Epstein list joke. Direct link (must be logged in to Twitter to see): x.com/StephenKing/...
July 16, 2025 at 2:23 AM
Based on the simple joke construction, King is implying the list is in fact nonexistent. He’s oddly aligning himself with the latest claims of the White House. Really making me squint here to find a positive interpretation.

It’s wild to say we’ve been parents for a year. Emma Rae Hawk had her first birthday today, and we celebrated at our home with family and friends. It was a fantastic time. Our baby girl is now a toddler. Wow! Thank you to all who came to celebrate our little girl and family.

Black babies were used as alligator bait in the American South. White companies poked fun at this fact like these licorice drops.

Now Trump’s got a prison in the Everglades with a gator moat.

This is why his movement tries to erase BIPOC history.

This country recycles its cruelty.

Had a good dream last night, for most people a nightmare, and this morning I decided to expand one of my short stories from ANOKA into a novella. Adding more to my plate this summer. Anyone down?

A stunning debut work of narrative nonfiction from one of the most powerful First Nations storytellers, We Survived the Night combines investigative journalism, colonial history, Salish Coyote stories, and a deeply personal father-son journey in an uplifting portrait of contemporary Indigenous life.
