One of the aspects of the first couple books (3 is on hold at the library) I have appreciated is Elma's challenges trying to learn how to be an effective ally.

Ending desegregation has been the quiet GOP platform since it embraced the radical right in the 1970s.
Trump and MAGA are the direct result of this policy. With very few exceptions, this IS who Republicans have chosen to be so they can win elections.

As someone privileged to work alongside VA researchers and caregivers '96-'00, this is deplorable.
EVERYONE working at the VA is committed to serving veterans, their community, and their country. The VA has been chronically underfunded for decades.
We should massively expand the VA, not gut it.

Also I really hate that the bald facts of the US economic structure make me sound like a conspiracy theorist but, for fuck's sake, "Seeking donations for health care" is not a thing any person in the US should have to fucking do. Universal health care is not actually difficult! We should have it!
