I think it's a lot of, we're old. So a lot of people making retro games didn't actually play retro games back in the day, their exposure is through shovel knight and the like. It's the same thing that leads to the whole 'you couldn't see the pixels on crt tvs'

It's weird cause they were always super open about them not being Nes style. Like it was supposed to be running on an imagined half gen step 32x style upgrade for the nes.
