I don't think he's genuinely a "blood-and-soil nationalist". I think he's simply a cynical opportunist, an ethically bereft man with no principles, driven by a lifetime of resentment (read his book), and will say anything and do anything to get power.

He's not actually an "academic" as described in the Post, and his piece is the usual shallow claptrap---basically saying he believes because it makes him feel good. Probably it's a puff piece to support a forthcoming book.

I don't think he's sincere, and the reason why I think this is Vance's unending stream of lies, and his reaction when confronted with one of his lies (for example, the "Haitian immigrants eating the dogs" lie).

People are rightly pointing out the absurdity of Vance's statement, but let's not also forget that his figure of 30 million is ridiculous. Reliable estimates are more in the 11-14 million range.

I get, on average, one submission a week now that is clearly written (at least in part) by Chat GPT.
On the other hand, I recently published a mathematics paper on the arxiv in which we thank Chat GPT for supplying a different proof to one of our theorems.
