The whole thesis here feels very much like the lesson that xl has to learn over and over in tgcf. In the end, he had to accept that no one is strictly good or evil. Also, that you might as well do as much kindness as you can bc the world doles out a lot of suffering either way.

It kind of shows how an event that was the center of one persons story can be a footnote in another’s. Everyone thinks they’re the main character but in reality, everyone’s existence is equally real and valid.

Many people Jin Ling loves were apparently responsible for his parents’ deaths. He can’t get revenge or hate them bc he understands why they did the things they did. He’s just left to mourn without a direction for his grief.

I think Jin Ling’s situation explains it the most clearly, bc he’s a child and his actions aren’t going to influence the viewers perspective on whether he deserved what he went through, unlike with wwx or jc or jgy.

And this leads to a weird place where you realize right and wrong aren’t direct opposites and there’s no way to objectively tally the amount each person holds of them.

Whether you think an action is justified depends a lot on whose eyes you are choosing to look through. Everyone has crimes they hold as worse than others.

Based on what I’d understood from the first couple of volumes I never expected to feel so conflicted about so many of the character’s motivations. Every single event was triggered by something or someone else.

Like in TGCF, sure you’ve got fics with Jun Wu in them but very few ppl are justifying his actions or apologizing for him. But with Jin guanyao, or jiang Cheng for example, there’s a lot of nuance.
