In Japanese, Solt often refers to Peppor as 隊長 (taichō,) or commanding officer. I believe it's not conveyed in English, but Peppor is actually a higher rank than Solt is, as is similarly mentioned in Chrono Cross Ultimania.

In the Chrono Cross demo, there is data for an icon of what appears to be Ketchop. While this likely does not imply playability, it suggests that he once had a role in the story outside of the one battle you encounter him in, as normally he does not appear in the overworld.
