My parents gave me my grandfather’s watch from the 70s. Vintage Gruen watches aren’t particularly valuable but this thing is priceless to me in sentimental value. Other than needing a good polish on the crystal, it works great!

Bummed to hear about David Lynch. I am a big fan of his work.

One of my favorites? This one:

It is absolutely wild to send an evacuation notice and then send a “nevermind” message 18 minutes later.

Incredible find of what might be the largest tree in the Amazon (60-meter crown diameter) by Fabien Wagner of CTrees using satellite data from Planet. See more here:

“The Jimmy Carter story I always think about is how he installed solar panels on the White House roof in 1979 and set a goal for renewable energy to hit 20% of US power by 2000. Reagan removed them in 1986 and killed the solar panel tax breaks setting the US back decades” - @bedmounds.com on Threads

One week left to apply for talks/workshops at the @oshwassociation.bsky.social conference in Edinburgh in 2025: docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F...

Threads is such a shitty platform for anything professional. Engagement is nothing like it is here unless you’re doing influencer nonsense or engagement bait.

It should be a legally mandated global requirement that every conference has a puppy play zone. #AGU24 @agu.org

It is always mind boggling at how massive @agu.org is every year. This is just one session of the poster room, which changes over twice daily for the duration of the conference. #AGU24

The responses to the #UnitedHealthcare execution across the political spectrum have been so interesting. Especially those reactions to Ben Shapiro. It makes me feel optimistic about the general public mindset leading into another Trump presidency.

Also this is hilarious:

We recently assembled and shipped a few @fieldkit.bsky.social underwater sensors for the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute in Panama. Each unit measures pH, conductivity, temperature, depth, and dissolved oxygen. They’re calibrated through the FieldKit.org app.

Our California Desert Tortoise (Gopherus agassizii) has been such a fantastic addition to our home. We got him this year as an adoption from the Tortoise Care Society under permit from the California Dept of Fish and Wildlife (you can see his permit bumper sticker at the end of the vid).

A group of Galápagos penguins (Spheniscus mendiculus) swam around me on a snorkel at Punta Vicente Roca on Isla Isabela in the Galápagos a few weeks ago and I was lucky enough to spend some time photographing them. After my first visit, Galápagos has become one of my favorite places on this planet.

If you ever come to the Tres Fronteras region of the Amazon, the area where Colombia, Peru, and Brazil all meet, you must visit Puerto Nariño. It is such a cute little town.

We found the cutest little frog hiding behind a FieldKit.org weather station enclosure yesterday.

I am currently in the Colombian Amazon for continuation of our FieldKit.org work in the region. Our sensors are being used by communities, small NGOs, national parks staff, and the local university for water and weather monitoring in the Tres Fronteras region from Leticia to Puerto Nariño.

I avoided getting COVID-19 for over 3 years only to catch it on expedition in the Amazon Rainforest.

Leaving Bogotá for Leticia. I can’t wait to be back in that glorious global treasure that is the Amazon rainforest.
