This guy stuck around in my garden for a couple of days before heading off. I would like to think that he made it all the way down to where he was going, and had a lovely life.

A gardener at a local botanical garden actually had several specimens that she had just kept because she thought they were pretty, after finding them dead in the garden, and ran and got me one of them. But hers was a tiger swallowtail, not a monarch. It took quite some effort, but it worked.

I found this monarch three years ago. He was still very active but couldn’t fly. I kept him inside for a few days on native asters and sugar water, while I tried to find a butterfly that had passed.
