I think you might be confusing me for someone else.
About why the ghosts are like that.
I don't think it's intended at all, just that it's part of the genre.
But I really like the direction the Danny Phantom went with that idea.

But due to them being ghosts fandom has taken that idea of fixation/obsession and turned it into something that's part of the nature of ghosts.
