oh yeah even with the quirks it's 100% worth it and much better than how i played it on 3DS originally: playing as Lest for 70% of the game and then changing my skin to Frey once i unlocked it (and then getting misgendered by everyone anyways lol)

the lesbian mod for RF4 is not perfect since its functionally just copy/pasting Frey over Lest and then rewriting the dialogue* but it does acknowledge how annoying some of the quirks are lol

*there is also a hex edit method that fixes some of the quirks but introduces a ton of others

i hate that you're right. i've bought too many of these cursed things in the past few years, after my latest one broke i bought razer's g502 clone (basilisk) in the hopes it will last longer

they don't happen often enough that you feel the need to bait them out when you could just keep doing damage otherwise, but Burst Counters are also not trivial to pull off, the frame timing for a lot of them is very tight.

nioh 2 is a good example of how to implement Enemy Attack Tells and Perfect Dodge/Parries without making the entire combat revolve around them. only Big Attacks have the indicator and these attacks will often Fuck You Up, are Unblockable and often difficult to dodge unless you Burst Counter it
