I'm not going to harvest it because I am nowhere near that brave, but this looks like a cluster of Hen-of-the-Woods, yes? Found at the base of a dead oak tree in Northern VA.

Carnations. My mom liked to grow them, and one of the earliest photos of me is sitting in a stroller while my aunt fed me one with a shit-eating grin. (They're non-toxic; my aunt was just being weird.)
