- Dragon Quest
I saw a YT short claiming that Gotenks wasn't meant to be a joke character initially and I got a bit tilted lol. Like, bro, this is what happened immediately after his first successful fusion. He was hilarious from the get go.

I got the third Blue Beetle book just to complete the original run but I still can't get over how bad the Boundaries storyline is lol. Everything else is fine but that storyline in particular just really rubs me the wrong way especially now.

Finished it, it's fantastic. The last couple of episodes in particular hit me especially hard given stuff that happened to me earlier this year. I hope Netflix doesn't do their usual bullshit and end this immediately.

Watching Long Story Short and it's very good which I guess isn't surprising since it's made by the Bojack guy lol

Norman getting amnesia at the end is contrived but understandable for the narrative to keep working & leads to a really heartwarming conclusion. Just two superpowered individuals being grounded & at peace with the people they care about the most, good stuff.

For the most part the storytelling in this volume isn't as good as the later stuff from Ditko's run & lacks the novelty of early Spider-Man, but it's consistently pretty good. The constant changes in Peter's life along with MJ shaking things up bump some of these stories up a bit too.

Marvel Mighty Masterworks Spider-Man Vol. 5 will be the end of our adventures for now but the journey was fun while it lasted. Ditko's departure changes not just the art but the style and attitudes of all the characters. Everyone is kinder! It's pretty jarring but probably for the best.

You got why he acted the way he did in the 'If This Be My Destiny' storyline but afterwards he has no excuse and actively acts like a rude, unlikable jerk to his fellow classmates who respond in kind.

That being said the final panel in this issue is *chef's kiss* beautiful. Again, the melodrama is a bit much but it makes for some powerful imagery.

Issue 29 is a follow up to the Scorpion story we got in issue 20. It's also really funny. JJ has a lot of good lines but this bit is probably my favorite from the issue. The fight against Scorpion is fun and I really like how Spidey uses his wit & creativity to beat him.

Tier list updated and further changed. I feel like at this point I'm just always going to be mixing things up. I'm pretty confident in the tiers and placements here though.

Mighty Marvel Masterworks Spider-Man Vol. 4 concludes Steve Ditko's time with the character with some fun single issues to start us off and a character defining story arc in the middle but ends with a couple of pretty mediocre tales. It's still a great read though.
August 20, 2025 at 9:59 PM
The tier list continues. Placements are getting swapped and things are getting harder to rank now because I question how much the novelty of the early stuff compares to the storytelling of later issues.
August 19, 2025 at 2:35 AM
Mighty Marvel Masterworks Amazing Spider-Man Vol 3 is finished and I enjoyed it quite a bit. The novelty of going through Spider-Man's early career is starting to wear off but the general quality of the storytelling is rising so it balances out.

Issue 18 of TASM has strong personal drama & an inspiring conclusion but Jameson's big, ugly ass smile all throughout is another reason why I love it. This shit is so funny.

Tier list updated with vol 2's issues + the annual. The Sinister Six annual was definitely my favorite from the book but issues 11 and 18 are both really good. Their respective follow up issues aren't as good though imo.

The Mighty Marvel Spider-Man journey continues with Vol 2, and things are still going strong. The drama hits an all time high early on with issue 11 & ends on a strong note with Spidey gaining newfound resolve. The middle meanwhile is filled with a ton of cool, new baddies & a fun daredevil team up!

The trick is to not watch it in full and just see the good clips of it on youtube.

Issue 3 is really good since Doc Ock is shown right from the jump to be a menace and gets some major bonus points for bitch slapping spider-man.

It's fun seeing how everything started with Spider-Man and a bunch of his classic villains. It's also interesting seeing the series go from grand super heroics to more personal melodrama. Anywho, here's a tier list of the first volume. It included Amazing Fantasy #15 + the first 10 issues.
