The way I see it is we have failed to build any economy (other than tourism) that doesn’t depend in extraction, and kickstarting anything would require big federal investment

I feel like a lot of this comes down to trying to run everything off oil when oil is pretty obviously in its way out.

I don’t know what the “right“ interface is, but I think the chatbot interface leads people astray about how to use the tools, just as the marketing leads people astray about both the threat and potential

There ought to be a federal and/or state level IT audit/consultant agency that has in house talent for this sort of thing. The government does enough of it that there is no reason not to have capacity to self serve

IVRs are generally a gui config that, if you are lucky, generates a json doc. AWS connect is a good place to look.

I have noticed, over the past 10 years or so, a change from people that like writing software and devs to people that like money and loathe devs

I was raised republican, and W is largely the cause of my moving to something like the Kristol left
And yeah, that is what it looked like and felt like. I’m conservative, but gay people are fine, we should do harm reduction with drug and the gwot is wrong headed and…. then I’m not a conservative

Tech is more useful, but I would still like more of a shift from social and pure information to more physical
I also have a crank opinion that basic research should be a bigger priority because that enables so many novel areas; it is just hard to directly measure the impact if a given dollar

Right - I guess my thesis is that the current allocation is societally suboptimal and that I don’t see a market-based way to increase the basket of goods that is invested in, based in outsized returns in information and financial areas
