Trent in Slot’s system is the easiest to replace and maybe even improve on. We’re not reliant on his long ball passing and if we’re being honest I don’t think slot’s a fan of the Hollywood balls.

Most technically gifted player who has 1 league assist 👍🏼 He isn’t good enough for midfield and is struggling with Slot’s RB playstyle. Offering more than 350k a week is a massive gamble.

You’re ignoring the context, he now plays in a system which doesn’t bring the best out of him. He was never the greatest RB under Klopp because he never actually played RB. Robbo was matching his output numbers.

Best in the world? He has one league assist this season and he’s been above average defensively. Don’t let the past cloud your judgement, he’s no longer free to do whatever he wants.

Trent’s been positioned slightly more forward to bait the press, but that’s not exactly his strong suit. Honestly, I believe it’s partly tactical. Opposing teams seem to tire out and lose focus as the game goes on, which is when we’re able to capitalise.

I don’t necessarily think it’s a bad patch, it’s more that Slot’s RB requirements are very different. He likes the RB to operate as the catalyst for the midfield, freeing up space with quick passes. Trent, on the other hand, doesn’t want to be the catalyst - he wants to be the result of the move.

Watching him this season has shown that he can operate outside of a Klopp system, though I’m not sure he actually enjoys it.

This is my worry. Apart from the Ipswich game, I honestly can’t remember a standout passing game from TAA. I think he’d be impossible to replace in a Klopp system, but not for Slot. An outside shout, with a bit of everything we need: Pedro Porro.

The sign-on fee will likely cover it, but I genuinely believe Trent is drawn to Ancelotti’s laid-back approach.
