now we might just generate the thingy and call it a day.

but I have hope in believing that… we would not have been so easily satisfied. and that today's creatives / ambitious preteens won't be, either.

we *want* to spend time with each others' brains…

is it not a fundamental form of love…?

i think of my childhood best friends & i spending hours planning the story and characters for games and comics we'd never "finish" … we'd design logos and board cutscenes and write story beats we'd never reach… to think I used to look back at these times and cringe at the lack of "productivity"…!!

if i must design technology, may it be to carve out spaces and moments where we bump into one another, behold and hold each others' dreams, where we can sit for a time, dreaming...
to be impatient, inspired, distracted, wanting, hungry, dreaming, together…!

how might we make, and feel, then…?

i grow weary of these creation tools! tools that accelerate, eliminate yearning!
that optimize away the "trouble" of needing to contemplate, or—god forbid, collaborate! that trade frictive intimacies for shallow immediacies that spoil the appetite, that say "here you go!! do not want!!!"

my rabbits & I drove 831 miles, visited 6 institutions, and 2 beaches!
I learned a lot about networking — not as transaction, but as a tool to serve & nurture the strength of a community.
Let's keep nurturing the HCI community, and the communities our work is meant to serve. ❤️
