I love body horror that isn’t afraid to have a little bit of hope! Grimdark gets exhausting. Look outside is brave enough to have people go through terrible traumatic things that leave their bodies unrecognizable- a lot of the time it’s too much for them- but sometimes they’re fine, just Different

The greed and laziness is an important element. If you make something low quality and lazy for the love of making things, well I mean I’d much rather see a shitty little doodle a person made with heart than ai slop

I said the same thing about a tubi movie called Glamping! Total B movie schlock, weird characters, weird acting, one guys shirt is two sizes too small for more than half the film- an interesting, if not good, plot with acceptable surprises. Not a masterpiece, but an excellent popcorn flick

I have a good guess what you’ve been playing recently

I always interpreted it as “Well, okay, there are some specific differences which academically do matter, but it doesn’t have to be exactly identical to be an echo of the past that we should be worried about”. I used the phrase a lot in classes where comparisons of genocides would pop up

Yeah that’s what I’m saying

Yeah, vtubing became a “trend” because there’s several reasonable, identifiable use cases for people to want to use a vtuber rig
Ai slop is a trend because it’s perceived as a low input, high output investment and pushed by tech companies

It’s not even apples and oranges. It’s apples and orangutans

The Beekeper is most enjoyable movie with explicitly fascist politics I’ve seen.. ever really
Starship Troopers was at least a joke

What about “I enjoy bad movies”
A movies quality and it’s enjoyability are two distinct scales which interact but do not depend on each other
The 2023 film Quicksand is. Well. About being caught in quicksand. But the actors sell it really well and it was made for less than most houses cost

“The other side wants to burn it all down, so we’ve decided to compromise and let them set a few small uncontrolled fires”

Introducing a character in a prequel like Kim who is so good and interesting is a fun way to generate easy tension because you wonder where she is in BB and realize “Oh no this character has the opposite of plot armor”. Fully doomed by the narrative and the only question is how she exits

You can turn into a big beetle

Or try to reframe it in your mind- Sometimes the resource being extracted is a sense of connection or positive memories. Our relationships with others are based on what we can offer each other but that does not always mean material resources

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with chemdumps that aren’t predatory about it
Like vampire survivors hits all the brain buttons of a slot machine and actually has progression and some semblance of gameplay- there’s nothing wrong with a good number go up brain go brr game for it’s own sake

Do people say this?? What a killjoy perspective
Now I’m frustrated with a take I’ve never seen from people who are imaginary to me
How are two of the most well known recent examples of the genre ruining the genre?? So what if they kinda poke fun at the concept, they’re well executed

It’s one of my favorite books and that has *never* occurred to me

“If you did it for a good reason, you'd do it for a bad one. You couldn't say 'We're the good guys' and do bad-guy things.”

Like how do people expect anybody to finish the ceaseless discharge without being told

I beat multiple bosses because I either was told or learned online that I could summon a spirit who’d basically do the boss for me. Spirit ashes were great because you couldn’t miss them as easy as a summon sign

That’s always how I imagined “git good” in those games- overcoming what felt like an oppressive challenge not by having perfect reflexes but by having things shared with me that allowed me to beat it without needing to play perfectly
It’s a bummer some people need it to be THEIR achievement

My experience with dark souls was inheriting tricks and shortcuts

“Hey did you know firebombs are busted against this boss. Also try the lightning sap you get here against the guy on the bridge. Behind that guy is a shield that actually works. You unlock a shortcut if you make it one more room”

I for one would not trust the random squad of dudes who formed a plan without including me not to sacrifice me to wear it down

“We’ve totally got this gorilla boys, just one more volley of men into no mans land”
May 5, 2025 at 4:31 PM
I think if the group can agree to and execute a plan the men a good shot

But I think there’s a lot of psychological factors going into it

Like, if these guys don’t know each other or didn’t sign up to fight a gorilla- communication will break down as soon as the first one is turned to red mist
May 5, 2025 at 4:27 PM
I am guilty of this
But I also think the gorilla gets a psychological damage bonus, as he can die only once but the crowd has to watch their allies fall get Gorilla-ed
So I don’t trust the crowd to use crowd tactics
