My kid graduated basic today. I can accept her joining the Army because she’s following in the footsteps of her great- grandmother. Four generations of military excellence, so far. Semper Fi.

My grandmother was born on this day in 1922. She grew up in the Deep South, joined the Army and served with the #SixTripleEight, then moved to Philly where she raised a clan of warriors and taught me all the best things I know. I miss her every day. Love you, Ma Syl. Happy birthday.

My grandmother served in the Six Triple Eight. She is in the backseat of the Jeep. Her great granddaughter is in Army basic right now. Their service cannot be erased or ignored.
