English and Media studies teacher in NZ. Taught for a few years in London. Love reading, and long walks. Big fan of all dogs especially Golden Retrievers.
I think there’s a part of Harris that wants to be like Yuki.

It’s a remarkable book and certainly deserved all the accolades. It was my first read once my school term was finished( big summer holiday now in NZ!)

I saw that you have chronic illness .. must be really tough.. especially in the heat of summer. I’m also a bit messed up with osteoarthritis .. reading is a good way of getting away from it all. I’m not as much of a cricket fan as you but I love watching all the tennis in January!!

Wow: very impressive. I’m a teacher on holiday so will probably average 2 per week overall. I have my library stash ready to go and today was the last day of the school year. Wahoo!!
December 9, 2025 at 8:47 AM
Wow: that’s generous!!! We only get till 5 January in Auckland .. though potentially can renew after that if no one else is after the same book. Will be interested to hear how many you manage to get read in the next 6 weeks.

Sooo good!!! Rap absolutely nails Jan and Yuki’s world views.

Looks like Yuki might have met his equal in the chasing game.. though you are both evenly matched. You need to have a go at the round the tree game in daylight hours.

Poor Jan. I really hope the garden renovations can be completed quickly so he can be free to do his favourite Jan manoeuvres in the park .. and entertain us all!

Jan looks like he missed the explanation and doesn’t know what to do now. He is a good friend to wait .. uncertainly , though.

Very noir there Yuki. I think the contrast really brings out your best features.

Walking on the wild side there Jan!!!
October 21, 2025 at 8:17 AM
That was an extraordinarily skilled manoeuvre. Jan certainly had no idea what just happened!!

No worries, Dan. I ended up borrowing from my library. I’m off to a good start. Especially love your fantastic setting descriptions. Other authors can be quite dull with this aspect of their writing but I think this is a real strength for you. Not to mention cracking characters, great storyline…
