Today our friend Layan Nasir appears in an Israeli military court facing charges which have hung over her for 4 years. Despite 8 months in administrative detention last year for a different issue which was never revealed, Layan faces further unjust imprisonment.
We cry out to God for justice.

Having spent 7 months in an Israeli jail last year under administrative detention, Layan Nasir is facing trial again. Her much-postponed trial will conclude on Sept 7. All pressure to avoid a custodial sentence is needed now. Letters to Israeli ambassadors and elected representatives please.

Today is St Peter’s day in the Church year. Several churches in the Holy Land are dedicated to St Peter. One of the best is St Peter Primacy on the shore of the Sea of Galilee. Its simple beauty captures the heart of the gospel story. Jesus Christ calls us to follow and seek his kingdom of justice.

Beabadoobee at Glastonbury smashed it. So proud!

On a mini break in Jordan but I’m still doing #FastForGaza. Starvation and bombing continues in Gaza relentlessly. Pathetic amounts of food are delivered and desperate families are dehumanised when collecting meagre supplies risking their lives. Actively resist this atrocity or condone it.

More details are emerging. Every day,new atrocities and new tragedies.Alleged reasons for such outrages are trotted out with no evidence and the international community all too often, naively accepts these. Words will not stop these breaches of international law, only firm and decisive action. When?

Sunset over Jerusalem last night seems to animate our hopes.

Despite a little more food getting into Gaza this week I’ll still be doing #FastforGaza on Wednesday.
The new process for getting food in operated via the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation is a fig leaf plan which will not come near to addressing the impact of the starvation plan.
Please join and act.

Early morning at the Sea of Galilee. Taking time to breathe in the beauty and receive the grace on a new day.

The suffering in Gaza is appalling so we are calling on people to #FastforGaza. The siege of Gaza must be lifted and sufficient quantities of food, fuel and medical supplies must enter to avert greater disaster.
Join the worldwide fast on May 21, share the #fastforgaza tag and post your support.

The siege of Gaza has been enforced for 70+ days and the suffering of the people is appalling. Please fast for Gaza as a simple but powerful campaign to tell politicians and leaders that we need action. End the siege and get food and supplies into Gaza to save the people. Use #fastforgaza and share.

Delighted to have been able to visit Layan Nasir and her family at home in Birzeit today. Layan has endured two periods in administrative detention. She is in good heart and strong. Her case is scheduled in court again on Sunday. Please pray for her and for justice.

The King of Jordan has declared that all flags should fly at half mast for three days in honour of Pope Francis at the time of his death. I wonder how many Western/Christian countries would give the same honour at the death of any Muslim leader.

My daughter’s band Beabadoobee played Coachella festival yesterday. Is there anything more cool that happened this weekend?

Easter joy breaks from Jerusalem even in midst of the all that is so destructive. The resurrection is given to us not as a comfort but as a calling to strive for all that is for life and peace.
April 20, 2025 at 7:12 AM
This year all parts of the Church celebrate Easter together. So, Holy Fire in Jerusalem is a celebration of the miracle of Christ’s resurrection for all Christians. Hallelujah, Christ is risen! Al Masih Qam! Christos Anesti!

It was a poignant evening, gathering last night on the edge of the Garden of Gethsemane praying on Maundy Thursday. Like Jesus we pray that this cup of suffering will pass. But to pray is to protest and to sing is to defy. We turn from the darkness towards the light.

Missiles may have destroyed much of our hospital in Gaza but let it be known that we are not defeated. Already our staff are clearing up and finding ways to get the damaged facilities up and running again. They really are unstoppable.

Today is 80 years since the Nazis executed Pastor Dietrich Bonhoeffer who was imprisoned for his part in the plot to assassinate Hitler. His words have never been more relevant and we need his moral clarity and courage more than ever before.

The feared total breakdown in Gaza seems to be upon us now. Dr Fadel Naim. Surgeon at our Al Ahli Hospital has issued a desperate emergency appeal for ACTION. This still seems to fall on deaf ears.

@bishopnorwich.bsky.social just completed a solidarity visit with Palestinian Christians. A highlight was a communion service in a cave at the Tent of Nations, nr Bethlehem. Many of the Nassar family whose farm is under threat from settlers were present. It was a moment of deep encouragement.

The Feast of the Annunciation: stained glass window in the Basilica of the Annunciation, Nazareth.
St Mary gives to us a model of courageous and faithful service. In death-dealing times she is a model of life-giving resilience. Christians and Muslims honour Mary, the mother of Jesus.

Early morning sirens alerted millions of Israelis to incoming missiles from Yemen. Running for shelters. This afternoon alerts in Tel Aviv for missiles from Gaza. Ben Gurion airport closed for much of the day. Israelis must be thrilled at their government’s breaching of the ceasefire.

Good morning from Jerusalem. Jesus said, “Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were not willing.”In these days of jeopardy we call upon the Lord.
