It’s been a while since I’ve been on the Bristol to Bath path and decided to take it both ways today. It’s as idyllic as ever. Nothing much beats a long ride on a traffic-free route where the biggest worries are falling autumn leaves and unpredictable squirrels.

Also… this kind of thing is just frustrating. On several greenways (which are signposted traffic-free cycleways) near me the A frame barriers are far too narrow for this e-bike. I imagine anyone with an adapted cycle would find this impossible to get past.

This particular e-bike model isn’t for me in the longer term though and this picture shows why. It is a lot heavier and bigger than is comfortable lifting up into our house + finding a place to store it is tricky.

Giving the e-bike a proper runaround the south & centre of Bristol today. I was keen to see how it handled the iconic Park Street hill. Answer = incredibly well. Still had to work enough to raise my heart rate but nowhere near the level when trying it on my regular bike.

Taking advantage of Bristol’s try a bike scheme to give an e-bike a go. I rarely cycle so looking forward to exploring bits of the city I don’t normally get out to and testing it on a few hills

Today old when I discovered the Ardagh Community Trust’s gardens, plant nursery, cafe & community centre in north Bristol.
Beautiful, great fun with the kids and an excellent example of what’s possible when the community takes the lead in managing local assets.

Public service announcement: Weston’s splash & play park is free at the moment. Our under 5s loved it and it wasn’t too busy.

Perfect Sunday morning run with the oldest from Avonmouth back to Bristol. Plenty of stops for the views, blackberries and (weirdly) conkers along the way.

Interesting to see this from the Business Travel Association
“Our research shows that most people still rely on their cars when travelling for work, which is no surprise. But it’s not necessarily because they prefer travelling by car, but because there’s no realistic alternative.”

And finally (at least for now), will Labour be judged on transport at the next election?
Our view, informed by both the polling and focus groups, is largely 'no'.
Transport matters. Making it better improves people's lives and is the right thing to do. But it is unlikely to be what people vote on

Across all income groups people largely agree that improving public transport is important to them and their families. Only those on higher income are likely to say the same about new roads.

Support for reducing road danger and creating safer, more pleasant streets comes from all parts of society.
This is particularly true when it relates to supporting children to play and get to school - with school streets one of the most popular safety interventions in our polling.
