The latest peace conversations around Russia's invasion to Ukraine seem to ignore the lessons painfully learnt from the failure of the 1994's Budapest Memorandum...

⚫️ Today, we remember the victims of the Holodomor: a man-made hunger through which the communist regime in the USSR killed millions of Ukrainians.

On the 36th anniversary of the Velvet Revolution that freed the country from communism, Slovaks are once again protesting authoritarianism.

Students in Czechia and Slovakia have a long history of standing up for liberty.

On November 17, we remember two such occassions: 1939, when students opposed the Nazi occupation, and 1989, when student demonstrations put into motion the events of the Velvet Revolution

Robert Nozick was born on this day in 1938. 🥳

A son of immigrants, philosophy professor, and one of the most well known advocates of libertarianism in the academia, with his 1974 book Anarchy, State, and Utopia.

Already the book's opening paragraph clearly outlines the libertarian position... 👇

Meet Breki Atlason, our National Coordinator for Iceland. 😎

Under his lead, our globally northernmost team has already hosted two major conferences in Reykjavik, most recently last month.

Keep an eye on his and his team's future activities, as they already begin to plan their next events. 😊

Same people, same culture, different lives.

The Berlin Wall wasn’t just a physical barrier – it was a symbol of how dramatically different lives can be under freedom versus control.

Watch Milton Friedman describing the difference economic freedom makes.

On this day in 1989, the Berlin Wall finally fell.

For over 28 years, it divided Berlin, Germany, Europe, and the world. For over 28 years, it was impoverishing, ruining and ending lives.

The developments of the past several years have brought new obstacles both for the freedom in Georgia.

Last weekend, our local team met to plan for upcoming events, as well as to share ideas and brainstorm initiatives to face the current challenges. And also, to have some pizza. 😎

The semester is slowly nearing its end, but our autumn conference season isn't!

Check out the event still coming in late November!

A reminder: this is Budapest just 69 years ago.

2500 Hungarians were killed in the Soviet invasion, the goal of which was to surpress dissent and dissatisfaction with the country's subordination to the USSR.

One month ago, Slovakia amended its constitution, among other things limiting the rights of LGBT+ individuals.

Our Slovak team met in Bratislava last week to discuss the impact the changes will have, and more.

In his talk at LibertyCon International 2024, David Boaz addressed the rise of illiberalism, and underscored our movement's core message:

"We believe that all people are endowed with inalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Not just some people."

"Scary? I’m not scared this Halloween. The UK banned ninja swords this year, so my village no longer needs to worry about attacks from samurai assassins."

John Devlin and the SpeakFreely magazine team share their fears this Halloween. What are yours? 👀🎃

Our new National Coordinator for Georgia is Kesaria Berdzenishvili! 🤩

Having joined only last year, Kesaria already managed to get a lot done, and not only in Georgia. She became involved in the team's activism in the lead up to and following the country's 2024 election, and hasn't stopped there.
