People who were ok with staying "unaware" of the struggles their queer and immigrant neighbors are facing are just now realizing that a federal funding freeze means their fire station won't get the upgrade they voted on the budget for, local schools might lose staff and programs their kids like, etc

At my work, folks are generally very aware and very worried. We're all at risk for various reasons. In my community, I think for a number of folks, it's only just starting to sink in.
