In 1809 the Board of Customs formed the Preventive Waterguard to patrol the coast in small boats & deter smuggling. By 1816 it had 151 stations in 31 districts, led by armed, seasoned seamen/fishermen who spent as much time as possible at sea on watch. NB article in Sept Roots

In 1809 the Board of Customs formed the Preventive Waterguard to patrol the coast in small boats & deter smuggling. By 1816 it had 151 stations in 31 districts, led by armed, seasoned seamen/fishermen who spent as much time as possible at sea on watch. NB article in Sept Roots
Martlesham Heath Aviation Soc next meet 3 Oct 7:30 pm. Richard Folkes OBE talk will explain how he managed helicopter scenes in “Skyfall” & set up arrival of “The Queen” by parachute at 2012 Olympics. £3 Soc members, £5 others/ pay at door. See poster attached

Another set of emigrants - voluntarily I think. Hugh CLARK & family (7 children) Article from June 1925, from 1995 edition of Suffolk Roots. No mention of where in Suffolk they came from. My daughter attended the St Catherine's University during her year of study in Canada.
