In 1809 the Board of Customs formed the Preventive Waterguard to patrol the coast in small boats & deter smuggling. By 1816 it had 151 stations in 31 districts, led by armed, seasoned seamen/fishermen who spent as much time as possible at sea on watch. NB article in Sept Roots

Occasionally you will come across some odd words when researching - here's the beginning of an article on strange occupations.

Members can search past copies of Roots for mentions of family/place of interest. Beware you can easily get distracted by articles like this!

Another set of emigrants - voluntarily I think. Hugh CLARK & family (7 children) Article from June 1925, from 1995 edition of Suffolk Roots. No mention of where in Suffolk they came from. My daughter attended the St Catherine's University during her year of study in Canada.
