Though his identity isn’t known to us yet, our thoughts are with the person’s friends and family as they navigate this heartbreak, and our hearts are heavy today – no one should ever lose their lives while riding a bicycle on our city’s streets. Read our full statement 👇 sfbike.org/news/our-sta...

We look forward to sitting down with Supervisor Alcaraz and her staff along with our enthusiastic, dedicated members in her district to discuss the future of transportation and people-centered spaces in the Sunset.
November 7, 2025 at 7:58 PM
To do that, she will need to work tirelessly to support the funding measures that will be on the ballot next year, and we are ready to support her in those efforts.

We agree with Supervisor Alcaraz that looking back will only cause divisiveness. We hope that, as someone who loves her district, she will be laser focused on ensuring the ongoing strength of our transit systems and championing vibrant, sustainable streets in the Sunset and the city at large.

"[Since Market went car-free], injury crashes have dropped by 40%, and transit has improved speed and efficiency by 14%. It is actually helping people get downtown, which is supposedly the goal of [the Mayor's] action, but really it will be getting in the way of it."
September 2, 2025 at 10:29 PM
"This is a step backwards. We share with the Mayor the desire to revive Market Street. The way to do that is to make it more welcoming and safe for people to walk, bike, and take transit. This takes us away from that goal."
September 2, 2025 at 10:29 PM
"The Mayor wants to revitalize Market Street. Rather than generating new trips to these neighborhoods, the likelier outcome is that trips that would otherwise be made by sustainable transportation will be replaced by car trips. That’s not a policy success, it’s a failure."
