In a webinar, @jlaferton.bsky.social recently shared valuable insights on how clinicians can enhance patient outcomes:

1️⃣ Ask about individual expectations & experiences
2️⃣ Strengthen patient-clinician relationship
3️⃣ Improve benefit expectations
4️⃣ Manage adverse effects & control expectations

To end this wonderful retreat week, we just got the news that the CRC 1280 "Extinction Learning" just got renewed for a third funding period! 🥳

Huge congrats to the whole team, especially to some of our involved CRC members! 👏

All in all, it was a fantastic retreat with lots of exchange at eye-level, between researchers of different fields and career stages, and the members of our Patient Advisory Board.

This is the research of the future! ♥️

Huge thanks to our public outreach / journalist team, Mathias Brüggemeier and Gaby Miketta! 🤩

And last but not least, the biggest thanks go to Detlef Pucher, the master of CRC retreat organization! 🌟

Last order of business: ✨ PRIZES ✨

We congratulate four early career researchers who won best paper awards! 🤩

Huge congrats for doing amazing work, @astrube.bsky.social, Lieven Schenk, Justine Schmidt, and Stefanie Hölsken! 🥳
November 20, 2025 at 10:08 AM
This way, our Patient Advisory Board (and honestly everybody else!) can make the most out of this session and ask all the critical questions they want! 🧐👆
November 20, 2025 at 8:12 AM
This morning, we organized something really special:

A 🌟 science communication poster session 🌟

Instead of doing a normal poster session, we asked our early career researchers to create #scicomm posters about their projects! 😱

And look at all the great titles that they came up with!
November 20, 2025 at 8:12 AM
After all this science, it was time for a hike with some team-building exercises! 💪
November 19, 2025 at 4:01 PM
Last but not least: @helenahartmann.com shared updates from the CRC's #scicomm project 🤩
November 19, 2025 at 12:20 PM
Now, @sheddenmora.bsky.social and Anna Borgmann talk about implicit and qualitative measures 🗣️👩‍💻

They also present our great Patient Advisory Board, where members of different patient organizations co-create research with us 👏

We are so excited that 6/16 members joined the retreat! ♥️
November 19, 2025 at 11:31 AM
Next, @labasedow.bsky.social is talking about data management, meta-data, psychometrics (questionnaires) and biological data (saliva samples) that we collect in all of our projects! 📝🤤

Why? Because one of the big goals of our CRC is to provide a huge pooled dataset with all studies we conducted! 💪
November 19, 2025 at 10:52 AM
In the last few presentations, the two central projects Z03 and Z02 are presenting their updates! 😁

Tamas Spisak informs us about how they pool neuroimaging data and how we can support this process! 🧠
November 19, 2025 at 9:47 AM
The last talk before the coffee break is given by Stefan Salzmann from @unimarburg.bsky.social on the iHEART trial which aims to optimise expectations and treatment outcomes after heart surgery ♥️😷
November 19, 2025 at 8:57 AM
Next up, @tobikube.bsky.social shows striking results of how positive vs. negative framing likelihoods of having a certain disease shapes the degree of people's concern about having this disease! 👩‍⚕️
November 19, 2025 at 8:39 AM
New day, new talks at our CRC retreat! @ploner.bsky.social is starting with a talk about #openscience practices! 😁

How can we be more transparent and reproducible throughout the whole research process? And what lessons has he learned along the way? 🤔
November 19, 2025 at 8:03 AM
Last up is @christianbuchel.bsky.social telling us about all things wrong with our current publishing system and how new models (for example @elife.bsky.social) are trying to break these barriers! 💪

Of course featuring this gem of a video by @glaucomflecken.bsky.social: youtu.be/ukAkG6c_N4M?...
November 18, 2025 at 5:16 PM
We also have some new affiliated projects! 🤩

First, we heard a great talk from @jlaferton.bsky.social on enhancing treatment expectations for knee replacement outcomes🦵😷

Then, Marcel Wilhelm and Gertraud Gradl-Dietsch presented a project on the impact of different treatment framing on depression ☹️
November 18, 2025 at 4:54 PM
With everybody arrived and fed, the retreat now continues with the individual project presentations, starting with our central project Z01 by @ulrikebingel.bsky.social 🌟
November 18, 2025 at 1:12 PM
Huge thanks to our three ECR speakers @rebeccalutz.bsky.social, @carlotta-alrt.bsky.social and @p-a-schumann.bsky.social for organizing and hosting the ECR-part of the retreat! ♥️

Now it's off to lunch, while all the Profs start arriving 🤩
November 18, 2025 at 11:36 AM
After the coffee break, our emerging PIs help debunk some academic myths! 🧐

Examples: "A researcher is a person with above average dedication to their job." or "Teaching is worth less than research."

What do you think? Truth or myth? 🤔
November 18, 2025 at 10:19 AM
Our CRC retreat in beautiful Meschede this year starts with just the early career researchers 🤩

This morning, after some speed dating to get to know other ECRs from the different projects, we hosted 4 roundtables on science communication, mentoring, funding opportunities and lab rotations.

🗣️ Calling all healthcare professionals!

The #scicomm team is evaluating the CRC's newsletter. For this we need input from people working with and around patients that are not part of our CRC.

Fill out the 10-15min (German) survey: sfb289.survey-uni-due.de/index.php/89...

Thanks for your support ❤️

🤫 Pssst, experiments in progress! 🤫

With many running studies at the same time, most of the testing rooms in Essen are busy and the PhD and MD students are actively collecting new data! This means the red door lights are on and we need to be quiet!

How does data collection look where you are? 🤩
November 14, 2025 at 8:20 AM
It was great to be there, thanks DGN for having us! ♥️
November 14, 2025 at 8:17 AM
Today, our speaker @ulrikebingel.bsky.social have a talk about pain and headache at the German Neurology Congress 2025 in Berlin! 🤩

In the meantime, we are getting ready for our CRC retreat next week where all members will exchange, discuss and plot new research! 🤫
