Started sailing at age 50 and boat owner since 2004. Currently sailing our Gulfstar 37 "Wanderlust" on SF Bay.

Also love to fix and make things.
One on my favorite memories from crossing the Pacific in a 37' boat was the silence while sitting in the cockpit with my captain at night.

I later worked my way through college working as a darkroom technician and sometimes photographer for a commercial photographer in SF. You can find samples of his work by searching for Orie Damewood. He had a studio in the Phelan building. 760 Market Street.

I don't recall meeting photographers, more likely editors. I do recognize some of the names you mention from photo credits in the paper. I was also in my early to mid teens ... a young guy.

Vertical length of sewer pipe filled with the chemicals. The developing film hung straight down in the solution. They let me develop my film there. If a photo sold I looked forward to seeing it in the paper and getting a check about a week later.

In the late sixties I was an aspiring photographer and would head out to a newsworthy event, take photos, and then head to some news office to pitch what I had. The Chronicle was one. I seem to recall their film developing thanks were unique.

Totally agree. We got both flu and covid shots last week.

We erected a small museum in front of our home for this very reason.

Your question brought tears to my eyes and reminded me of a song by Tom Waits. Here are the lyrics
